Job Title: Warehouse Assistant, Maternity Leave Coverage
Location: Meaford, Ontario

Reports to: General Manager
Average Hours: 2-3 shifts available per week (generally 4-8 hours, though may vary with business demands), possibly more as required or agreed upon (up to 20-24 hours/week, to be discussed in advance if applicable).
Wage: $18/hr

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with weekly tasks (e.g. accepting goods, preparing the warehouse and goods for the week ahead, staging a pack, packing and checking orders, loading the delivery van, cleaning, etc.)
  • Supporting General Manager with Local Food Marketplace operations
  • Able to handle weights of 50lbs (please notify Warehouse Manager otherwise)
  • Other duties as needed

In the case that information in the Employee Handbook conflicts with information in this contract, the terms of this contract will apply.

Compensation:
The employee will be paid on a bi-weekly schedule. If work hours exceed 44 hours per week, the employee is entitled to overtime pay for each hour worked (1.5 times the employee’s regular rate of pay). Eat Local Grey Bruce will make all legally required contributions (e.g., CCP, EI, etc.) on behalf of the employee. Staff are given a ½ hour paid break per full shift worked (> 4 hours).

As per the Employment Standards Act (ESA), employees are entitled to 2 weeks of vacation annually. Vacation will be paid out at a rate of 4% of the employee’s gross weekly earnings and added to regular pay-cheques.

Employees are also eligible for a free membership in the Co-operative and a staff discount on goods.

Holidays:
All employees at Eat Local Grey Bruce are entitled to statutory holidays as listed in the Employment Standards Act. In order to be eligible for Holiday Pay, an employee must work all of their last regularly scheduled day of work immediately prior to and all of their first regularly scheduled day of work immediately following a holiday, unless absence is approved in advance by the employee’s immediate manager.

Reimbursement of Expenses:
The employee will be reimbursed for travel and other expenses incurred while carrying out their responsibilities on behalf of Eat Local Grey Bruce, provided these expenses are allowed by the applicable policy or as approved in advance by Management. Approved mileage is compensated per current CRA rates.

General Code of Conduct:
Eat Local Grey Bruce (ELGB) values providing a positive customer service experience, and employees are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner. Employees are expected to follow the general Code of Conduct as well as policies outlined in the ELGB Employee Handbook (may be amended from time-to-time, current copy provided).

Work Environment:
Eat Local Grey Bruce is committed to creating a safe and positive work environment. Staff are encouraged to raise any concerns or feedback to their manager, or to the board liaison (or other board members) as appropriate. Staff are also welcomed and encouraged to share any ideas or suggestions they may have to help the organization improve.

Employees are encouraged to take reasonable breaks as required. For longer shifts, beyond the initial ELGB-paid break and per ESA guidelines, staff members are entitled to a total of 30 minutes of unpaid break time for each additional 5 consecutive hours of work.

ELGB is also committed to providing a work environment in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. All persons that enter our workplace are expected to uphold the policies on workplace harassment and workplace violence prevention. Neither workplace harassment nor violent behaviour will be tolerated from any person in the workplace. Staff are encouraged to raise any concerns about workplace harassment or violence, and to report any incidents (including threats) to the Board of Directors. There will be no negative consequences for reports made in good faith. The board pledges to investigate and deal with all concerns, complaints and incidents of workplace harassment or violence in a fair and timely manner, respecting the privacy of all concerned as much as possible.

Termination and Resignation of Employment:
The first 90 days of employment will be a probatrionary period, during which the employee’s performance and suitability for employment will be monitored by the Employer.

Should Eat Local Grey Bruce decide to terminate the employment of a staff member, including the need for a temporary or permanent layoff, provisions contained in applicable employment legislation will be respected. If the employee decides to leave, ELGB would appreciate written notice of at least two weeks. The employee may be asked to participate in an exit interview with the board to assist in improving working conditions.
