What is the solidarity model?
The solidarity model is a means to provide assistance to lower-income families or individuals who, in their current situation, find it difficult to afford the price of local food. The fund is fuelled by other co-op members through the purchase of tokens, fundraising products and our Membership Levels. Click here for more information on our Solidarity Model.
Who qualifies as a Solidarity Member?
Anyone who feels they cannot afford the cost of local food prices, membership or delivery fees, can apply for assistance. Although an application process is required, we do not ask for any proof of income, but only that members are honest and will update us when their situation changes. All Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour will receive a free Eat Local membership through the Solidarity Model
How do I apply for assistance?
How do I donate to the Solidarity Fund?
By selecting an appropriate Membership Level, you can help contribute to our Solidarity Fund.
First login to your Eat Local account. Click on the user icon on the far right of the top green bar. From the dropdown menu select “Account Information”.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page, on the right side you will see ‘Membership Info’. This will tell you where you are in your current membership and also allow you to renew. If you renew prior to reaching the end of your current membership expiration, the new membership will be appended to the end of the current one. Click on ‘Renew Membership’.
Here you are provided with a drop-down menu from which you can select your the membership level. Click ‘Confirm’ to finish the transaction.
Am I guaranteed a certain amount every month?
We cannot guarantee any given amount each month. The funds collected through the co-op will be totalled at the end of every month and split evenly (taking family size into account) between all our current Solidarity Members. There is no way to predict how much will be available for any given month.
Will other members know that I’m a Solidarity Member?
Other than a few staff members, no one has access to your membership level. The membership level does not get printed on any invoices or order confirmations.
Can I get a tax receipt for any donation I make to the solidarity fund or to the co-op?
We are not currently a registered charity and as such, cannot offer any tax receipts for donations.
