How To Add New Products

Please follow these instructions when listing new products in order to maintain a level of consistency throughout the online store and efficiency at the warehouse.

Navigating to your product list

Click on the “Products” button from the sidebar on the left. On the Products Page, click the “Add Products to Sell” button.

In the pop-up window click the link at the top that says “create new product”.

Now you can fill out the details of your product.

Product Name

Enter the name of your product. Once created, the name of the product can only be edited by an administrator. If you need your product name altered, please contact the store manager. If you are listing a variety of apple, squash etc., please list with the base product followed by the variety. For example “Apples, Macintosh”, “Squash, Butternut”, “Beef, Ground” etc. This ensures a more efficient product browsing for members, i.e. all apples are listed together.

Pricing Method

If your product has only one selling unit, you can keep this as a Type A product.

If your product has multiple selling units you will use either a Type A or Type C product.

Type A is for products that are sold as different sizes or weights, but draw from a shared availability. For example, a bushel of apples could be sold as half bushels or 3 lb bags. If you sell one half bushel the quantity of the 3lb bags will be decreased by half. For this to work correctly you will need to enter a ‘Multiplier’ for each selling unit. If you have 50 lbs of apples and you’re selling them in 50, 10, 5 and 2 lb bags, you would enter a ‘Multiplier’ of 50, 10, 5 and 1 respectively. You will then list them with a total quantity instead of the individual quantities for each selling unit. For help listing Type A products, please contact the Store Manager at

Type C if for listing a product with multiple selling units that each require independent availability. For example, maple syrup sold in 250ml bottles or 500ml bottles. If you sell 5 of the 250 ml bottles, this will not affect the availability of your 500 ml bottles.

Base Unit

This describes how you are selling your product (bag, package, jar etc.) PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS FIELD FOR WEIGHTS, SIZES OR VARIETY this will be indicated under the selling unit. This unit will not show up on your product listing, but is useful for our packers and warehouse staff.

Unit Name

Under Unit Name, enter the weight, size, volume, pkg quantity etc. of each selling unit. Example Unit Name are: 250 mL, 16 oz, 1 pint, package of 3, one dozen, 3 lbs etc. PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE THE PRODUCT NAME IN THE UNIT NAME OR DESCRIPTION. To add an additional selling unit, click the link “Add Selling Unit”. For example you can have on Unit of 250 mL at a cost of $4 and another unit listed as 500 mL for $7.

Unit Price

Unit Price is the cost to Eat Local. THIS IS NOT THE CUSTOMER PRICE. A 25% markup will be added to calculate the customer price. We encourage producers to keep their prices for Eat Local customers the same as their market customer pricing.

Multiplier, Sort Order and UPC

Leave these as they are. Please do not change the multiplier unless you are understand how multiple units draw from one source (See Type A) above.

Select Image

Please add an image of your product! You can upload this from your computer. The preferred image size is 200px x 200px. DO NOT USE COPYRIGHTED IMAGES OFF THE INTERNET. All product pictures will be cropped to a square size.

Tag Line/ Description

Add details about your product including ingredients and cooking instructions if applicable. PLEASE INCLUDE ALL INGREDIENTS IN YOUR PRODUCT DESCRIPTION. Anything you type in the Tag Line will show up on the product listings as members scroll through the store. The Description will only be seen if a member clicks on the product to open up the larger view.

Storage Type

ONLY USE THE STORAGE TYPE IF YOUR ITEM IS TO BE SOLD FROZEN OR IF YOUR ITEM IS A NON-PRODUCE ITEM AND REQUIRES REFRIGERATION. Leave the storage type as “None” unless your product is frozen or is an non-produce product that requires refrigeration (cheese, milk, eggs, prepared salad, drinks, dressing etc.). We use this selection for packing only and it DOES NOT dictate where your product will be stored in the warehouse.

Product Attributes

These are only to be used if your product and farm are certified.
