About the Farmer

Gerald and Shari-Lynn starting farming in 1998 confident it was the way they wanted to raise their family. They continue to enjoy farming and growing healthy food for themselves and others. The te Velde families favorite part of farming is being outside even when it's raining, especially the younger kids. The kids also really enjoy small square bale haying in the summer, except maybe when the hay is too old and dry, and of course operating the tractors! When the te Velde family is not farming they enjoy playing soccer, reading or spending time with family and friends.

About the Farm

http://www.naturallygrown.org We are a diverse family farm, located on the rolling hills of the Niagara Escarpment (Woodford), nestled in the northern head waters of the Big Head River which flows into Georgian Bay at the town of Meaford. We are committed to providing you with the highest quality 100% grass only beef and lamb, corn & soy free pastured pork and poultry, and a wide range of organically grown seasonal vegetables.

Producer Practices

Our farm and farm products are Certified Naturally Grown (www.naturallygrown.org) This certification follows the certified organic standards with a focus on small farms, with absolutely NO pesticides, chemical fertilizers, hormones or GMO technology, and our animals have 100% access to fresh green grass throughout our 'green' growing season. We use a rotational grazing method where animals are moved to new pasture every 12 to 24 hours. This is better for the animals and the land. We specialize in corn and soy free pork and poultry. As noted above our vegetables are organically grown. We use our own compost, which we make from our livestock manures, hay, straw, and vegetables. We rotate our crops from year to year as well as planting cover crops and green manures to help build the soil along with the compost.
