About the Farmer
Jennifer and Mathias Seilern started Seilern Farm in 2011. They love the challenge of regenerating the earth and the positive impact they see on the land with each passing year. To them nothing is more beautiful than cattle on fresh pasture! When they aren't farming Jennifer and Mathias can be found reading by the fireplace or dancing the night away.
About the Farm
Seilern Farm is a 300 acre mixed family farm near Kincardine, Ontario. Our Angus beef herd dine on fresh pasture all summer long and a mix of wet and dry hay (stored grass) throughout the winter. We also grow a diversity of small grains (like spelt and rye) as well as some row crops (soybeans and corn). We farm because we love it, and not just the food! We love working with the soil, the animals, the farm ecosystem. We do it to see real, tangible, positive change in the world. We love nourishing our customers and friends and aim to inspire others to join us both farming and eating. We can help you feel confident about the meat you are feeding yourself and your friends and family. You can always expect to receive healthy, organic, pastured and delicious meat at an honest price from animals treated with integrity.
Our diversified farm is certified organic and biodynamic with Eco-Cert. The crops and livestock are rotated around the farm providing biological diversity and a rest for the soil. All animal manure is composted and incorporated back into the soil providing fertility and a closed nutrient cycle. This is the recipe for healthy soil, the basis of all farm production. We feed the soil and, in turn, it feeds us and our customers healthy, tasty food. Buffer strips and marginal areas provide protection for our crops and animals from chemical sprays. They also provide excellent habitat for birds and pollinator insects. We provide habitat for these species and in turn they set up camp here and become our resident pest control system, helping us to keep the farm in balance.
